Bottom Lines

And so….just knocked down a looming deadline of some 1000 words. The stories I really enjoy doing, beyond the wine and food ones, are the feature pieces where I get to “stretch out” a bit and write descriptive prose. It’s still journalistic, but it’s a bit more than just, “The City Council voted last night to…” But don’t get me wrong, I never thought I’d get as big a kick as I do writing those pieces, too.

I’ve been covering the city council for the paper will do so through the end of this month. The paper lost their city beat reporter and hired another one to start June 1. As a stringer, I was given the interim task and I love it. Never thought I would enjoy something so very much.

I was supposed to do an interview today that would allow me to write a feature piece on J. Paul Rosilez winery, but Joe was busy, I guess or perhaps forgot. Either way, he didn’t answer his phone and he didn’t call me back. Hopefully, I’ll get a hold of him tomorrow.

It’s been a busy day, but I was home on time, walked the dog, ate dinner with the family and felt human again. It’s terrific to be in control of my time. The play rehearsals are over and 50 percent of the performances are over as well. It’s gone quite well, except for Saturday night when I dropped my lines like a hot potato. The kids covered for me and I was grateful. Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week and then I’m done being an actor for a while. Fun, but a lot of time–and effort.

Meanwhile, we’re coming down to the end of the school year and that means poetry. I’ve got to go dig in and catch up on tomorrow’s lessons. Good night and blessings.
