City Council tonight while Sue and Peanut drove Sofie north to Goleta. She’s off to San Francisco for the weekend with the Cultural Homestay group. We’re excited for her because SF is one of our favorite places. It’s got to be arguably the most beautiful city in the U.S. Besides, I proposed to Sue just north of the city in Sonoma, not knowing then how big a role wine would play in our lives.
Sofie seemed ready to go. I think she needed a break from her American “parents.” Can’t blame her. We’re adults, after all, and she’s a teenager. She needs a break. Peanut misses her and tried to call her on her cell phone tonight, but she’d already shut it off. Understandable. Sofie and Peanut have bonded–really truly bonded and it will be hardest on the two of them when Sof leaves in a month for Belgium.
Wrote a quick piece on some funds the City of Camarillo got to upgrade its roads. The money in this time is a big deal because we’re talking about a possible 3o billion dollar shortfall in this state. While a recession is hard to technically nail in terms of lack of growth, we are darned near one if we’re not in one. Revenues are down, taxes are up (I wish lefty’s would get that equation. Lower taxes means higher revenues–always) and inflation is a threat. It will be interesting to see how the Governor and the legislature approach this.
Nice sunny days, cool breezes, warm air, perfect white and rose wine weather. I start my last run of the school play tomorrow night and I’m looking forward to it for two reasons: 1) I like performing and 2) I’m glad it’ll be over. The rehearsal schedule and the rest were pretty brutal. The kids are fantastic, as I’ve said, in their roles–but with a family, a teaching gig and a writing career, I’m zonked. Plum warn out, I tells ya.
So–I bid you all guten nacht. I think. If that offends anyone, please–don’t be offended. It was an attempt at German–and perhaps a bad one.
