Threw the Black Dog a bone, kicked him out of the house and told him not to come back. A good thing, actually. Feeling much more on top of things today.
I got to meet tonight with my friends the Sheaffer’s and our mutual friend James Carling of Ventura Limoncello. James brought an ice-cold bottle of the Limoncello and I brought a couple of bottles of the Two Dogs Tempranillo. Tom bbq’d steaks, Mary Beth laid out a spread of cheese and salami and olives and away we went. What a great evening. Sue, who is suffering from a sinus infection, didn’t feel good enough to go, poor thing. I took Peanut with me as Evan, Tom and MB’s son, is a year younger and they get along wonderfully. Even Bonzer the dog had a good time.
James did some media time tonight on KVTA in Ventura and there will be a podcast later that I’ll link to here. I didn’t get to hear it yet, so I’ll look forward to that. The product he and Manuela are making (Manuela is currently in Italy) is so delicious and so top notch that it’s hard not to be a fan. It is truly a “digestivo,” a term James tells me the Feds here in the states don’t much care for. He’s not allowed to use it on his bottles. Still, a wee dram of the yellow beverage after dinner is perfect and it really does help digest and makes you feel quite good.
He’s got a dinner coming up at the SideCar in Ventura, a place I’ve written about and where Sue and I went for our anniversary last month. Chef Tim is one of the best, in my opinion–and his restaurant is a true gem in the crown of Ventura County. In late August, Chef Tim will be pairing the Ventura Limoncelo with several dishes as well as making a sauce with it and James will be preparing Limoncelo martini’s of various sorts. Cannot wait.
I’m on the trail of a couple of wine stories as well as some news I’m doing for the paper, so I will keep this short. Remember–support your Ventura Limoncello. The stuff is awesome!
